Norton Internet Security 2003
This issue happens when Norton Internet Security (NIS) has been configured to block scripts, ActiveX controls, Java applets, referral information, or advertisements.

ActiveX controls and Java applets can be blocked by customizing your security settings from the main interface. Please follow the steps provided below to resolve the issue:

  1. Open Norton Internet Security .
  2. Click on Firewall.
  3. Click on Configure.
  4. Click on Custom Level. The "Customize Security Settings" window appears.
Look at both the Java applet and ActiveX boxes. If either or both are set to block, lower the security level and then click OK. (In the example above, Java applets are being blocked.)
  5. Try to connect to the webpage again.

If elements of the Web page are still being blocked, there may be a web rule that is blocking scripts, Java applets, Active X controls, or referrer information. In this case you need to manually enter the website. Please follow the steps provided below, which will help you in resolving the issue:

  1. Open Norton Internet Security (NIS) main window.
  2. Click on Options.
  3. Click on Internet Security.
  4. Click on Web Content tab.
  5. Click "Add Site."
Type the URL for the Web site that contains that Web page. For example: www.nihongobc.com may be the Web site that contains the page http://nihongobc.com/forum
  6. Click OK. This step adds an entry to list for that Web site. Note that if the Web site was already listed, this action does not add another entry.
  7. In the left frame, select Defaults.
  8. In the right frame, select Global Settings tab.
  9. Make sure that the Permit radio button is selected in all the sections.
  10. In the left frame, click the name of that Web site you had added.
  11. In the right frame, select Global Settings tab.
  12. Select Default Settings in all the checkboxes.
  13. Click on the User Settings tab.
  14. Uncheck all the CheckBoxes.
  15. Select Permit radio button under the sections- Cookies, JavaApplets, ActiveX Controls and Pop-up Ads.
  16. Click on OK.
